The
Door Art Gallery was opened in the fall of 1995 by a group
of nine artists, as a place where they could paint together,
display and sell their work, and offer art classes. The
founding artists had already been together for the previous
five years; painting in each other’s homes and on
site, but having a permanent working studio had been their
dream. When the space on the corner of Bullard & Marks
became available to them, they readily set up shop. The
former tenant of the space, The Door Gallery, was a store
that sold doors. Just starting out and not having the
money for a sign, they adopted the name, finding it appropriate
for an art gallery that wished to open doors for themselves
and other artists.
Currently over 100 paintings in various media and
sculpture fill the gallery. A thematic front window features
new work every month. There are framed and unframed paintings
available for sale or rent. A gallery representative is
available to help, show, and advise on paintings for your
business or home.
Watercolor and drawing classes are held at the gallery as well as weekly life drawing sessions. Periodically The Door Art Gallery organizes special workshops presented by nationally known artists.
Throughout the community, people find The Door Art Gallery an exciting and creative place to be.
